Vodafone Changes Foreign Laptop Broadband Price Plan
Fri, 21 May 2010
Vodafone has announced changes to its mobile broadband price plans which are likely to affect laptop and netbook users who access the internet abroad. The broadband provider and mobile phone operator is set to change its data roaming price plans, and while the company is quick to point out that it will benefit infrequent users of mobile internet, it appears that frequent mobile broadband users may be penalised whilst abroad.

At present, Vodafone customers are charged £5 per day for using up to 25MB of data in Europe and £10 for up to 50MB of data, and £15 for up to 25MB or £30 for up to 50MB anywhere else in the world. However, Vodafone have announced that this pricing strategy is to be changed, with users set to be charged £1 per megabyte for the first 5MB, and £5 for every 5MB thereafter under the new plan. Charges are also higher outside of Europe under the new plan, with the first 5MB costing users £3, and £15 per 5MB thereafter.

The cost of accessing internet via a dongle on laptops when abroad is also set to change, with users in Europe paying £10 per 50MB, while the cost rises to £30 per 50MB when outside of Europe.
