The iPad competition has officially heated up with the introduction of the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy Tab at the IFA conference in Berlin. The Tab is a tablet computer that could very well do away with Apple's beloved iPad.
The Galaxy Tab in terms of specification alone outstrips the iPad. The Samsung Galaxy Tab weighs almost half of the weight of the iPad at a mere 380g - yet still incorporates a 7-inch screen. The word ultra-portable springs to life and the problems of portability that the iPad was faced with are removed thanks to the Galaxy Tab.
Furthermore, the hard drive capability of the Galaxy Tab matches the iPad in that it can go up to 64GB (32GB internal and 32GB expandable) but the added bonus that Samsung have included is the ability to expand the memory as and when you wish and chop and change your microSD cards.
In addition, one of the biggest features that the Tab features that the iPad lacks is a camera and not just one but two cameras, a 3.2megapixel camera on the back and a VGA camera on the front.
However, just how Apple teamed up with O2 for the iPad, we know for certain that by October, Vodafone will be releasing these 7inch beauties in most European markets. To compete with Apple's iTunes and App store Samsung have employed a "Reader's Hub," and "Media Hub," for eBooks and music and videos respectively.
Speculation of a series of different sized Samsung Galaxy Tabs was confirmed when Samsung announced that this is "the first of the company's tablet devices", hopefully suggesting that speculation of a 8inch and a 10inch tablet edition that will directly compete with the likes of the Dell Streak and the iPad.
However, many critics argue that the decisive factor is price, with the iPad priced at a minimum of £429 and the Dell Streak at minimum of £449, the Samsung Galaxy Tab has to offer a competitive and affordable price, if not the fate of the Tab could very well follow that of the iPad.
Expect the Samsung Galaxy Tab in October.
