PC manufacturers are set to adopt Google’s portable
operating systems in their new
computers this year, though many manufacturers are unsure whether to opt for
Android or Chrome. The operating systems are set to appear in larger devices such as
netbooks and
laptops this year, though many manufacturers are undecided on which Google system to use, while others are clearly split.
Samsung appears likely to choose Google Chrome OS, and an Australian news website recently suggested that Samsung is putting the final touches to a
netbook . According to reports, the netbook has yet to be named, but will boast a 10.1 inch LED backlit display, 64GB of storage and 2GB of RAM. The
PC will have a battery life of up to 12 hours, and will store its documents on Google’s cloud servers. Reports suggest Samsung are inclined to use
ARM processors rather than the
Intel equivalent.
Other firms are unconvinced by Chrome, however, and prefer the Android OS initially designed for smartphones.
Hewlett Packard is an example of a manufacturer which appears to be leaning towards the Android OS, having used the
operating system on its recent
Compaq AirLife 100 netbook.
