Two new reports have indicated that
mobile broadband is becoming an increasingly popular option in America. A survey from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has revealed that 15 per cent of Americans use
mobile broadband on their
laptops, and the proportion of
computer owners using mobile
internet deals is expected to increase as 4G networks become more widespread. Given the relatively recent advent of
mobile broadband deals, the 15 per cent figure is hugely impressive.
Meanwhile, one report which has gained a great deal of media attention is the finding that 35 per cent of American’s don’t have access to high speed
internet at home. This figure, which equates to 93 million Americans, has prompted the new FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski to pledge more affordable
high speed broadband access. However, with
mobile broadband bundle deals often accompanied by a free
laptop or
netbook, there could be scope for mobile broadband providers to target those without internet access or a
PC at present.
A number of American companies are rolling out 4G networks with a view to making internet more accessible than at present, meaning consumers would not need to connect to
Wi-Fi on their
notebook PCs .
