Lenovo has unveiled its new Skylight
Smartbook – one of eleven
PCs launched at the Consumer Electronics Show. The new PC is an all-in-one
netbook using the Snapdragon version of the ARM chip – the processor used in a number of
mobile phones .
Lenovo have promised a new and exciting user interface, as well as
WiFi integration and
3G WAN connectivity.
While marketed as a Smartbook, the device appears to be more of an advanced phone gadget. As well as offering a proper keyboard and screen, the new Smartbook conceals a
Linux operating system, with movie playback offered though there is no
DVD or
Blu-Ray drive. Instead, you will need to transfer a movie onto the integrated 16GB
USB stick.
The Smartbook is expected to be available to buy around Easter time, though consumers wanting a Windows based netbook from Lenovo are better off opting for the IdeaPad S10-3t and S10-3. The S10-3t is the first netbook
tablet PC to feature a capacitive multitouch screen, offering functionality and portability, though clearly its processor will not be as powerful as
desktop computers or powerful
notebooks .
