Computer manufacturer
Hewlett Packard has launched its first
laptop PC targeting businesses which includes a touchscreen. The EliteBook 2740p can be converted to become a
tablet PC using it’s rotatable 12.1 inch screen, though the analysts are sceptical about the need for such technology in the
business world, while Hewlett Packard have themselves said they do not plan to bring touch technology to existing business
notebook lines.
Spokesman for Hewlett Packard, Mike Hockey, said that touch technology is more popular among consumers, while touch technology is not one of the features which businesses have requested the manufacturer adds to their
PCs . Despite this, Hockey said Hewlett Packard wanted to test the success of touch technology in business computers.
Businesses have gradually made the shift away from
desktop PCs to
laptops, though analysts do not expect low-powered
netbooks to catch on in the corporate world.
The EliteBook 2740p will come with
Intel standard voltage and low voltage Core processors, either a six-cell battery or a slice battery which can provide five and eleven hours of battery life respectively. Expected to launch worldwide in April, the PC will start from $1,599.
