Sony is set to sell its new
Vaio M series
netbook through
Tesco, claim
internet sources. The mini
laptop PC is set to go on sale at the end of March, retailing at around £299. The VPC-M11M1E/B mini
notebook is said to be powered by the new 1.66 GHz
Intel Atom N450 Pine Trial processor, while Intel’s GMA3150
graphics card is also believed to be incorporated into the portable
computer .
The netbook has a sizeable 250GB 5,400rpm
hard disk drive, as well as 1GB RAM. The 10.1 inch LED backlit screen offers a 1,024x600 pixel resolution, while there is also an inbuilt
webcam, a card reader, a D-sub port and an Ethernet port.
WiFi connectivity allows users to connect to the internet, though analysts are likely to be critical of the inclusion of the basic Starter version of
Microsoft Windows 7 which is included. The
PCs battery life is unconfirmed, but is expected to last around six hours, and consumers will have a choice of black and white models.
Analysts have already cast doubts over the value of the
laptop, suggesting that the
Sony label has driven the price up. The
Lenovo Ideapad has been cited as a rival to the new netbook, offering the same specifications for £43 less.
