The
HTC Flyer tablet is now available for pre-order, with online and high street retailer
Carphone Warehouse offering the SIM-free
3G model for £599.99.
The Flyer – HTC’s first
tablet PC device – is listed as ‘in stock’ on the company’s website, although orders won’t ship until early May when the tab officially goes on sale in the UK.
Announced in February at this year’s
Mobile World Congress, the
HTC Flyer is powered by 1.5 GHz Qualcomm single-core processor and runs
Android 2.3
Gingerbread (an
Android 3.0 Honeycomb update is expected shortly after launch), along with HTC's Sense UI.
The 7-inch tablet also comes with 1 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage (expandable up to 64 GB via a
microSD card slot), Adobe Flash support,
GPS,
Bluetooth, aluminium unibody casing and two built-in
cameras - a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls and a 5-megapixel model on the rear.
However, the Flyer’s stand-out feature is the inclusion of a stylus or ‘magic pen’, which allows users to draw, paint, write and retouch pictures on the capacitive touchscreen using HTC’s proprietary Scribe technology.
