Reports in Taiwan suggest that sales of the
Apple iPad 2 have already exceeded 2.4 million, despite ongoing problems with stock shortages.
Taiwanese newspaper DigiTimes reports that "Apple took delivery of 2.4-2.6 million units in March", according to sources at the Cupertino company’s key component suppliers.
The figures, if correct, mean that
Apple sold pretty much all of its stock of
second-generation iPad tablets last month.
They also suggest that
iPad 2 units are shifting at a much faster rate than the original
iPad, which last year took 28 days after its release to reach the 1 million sales mark.
Initial sales of
the iPad 2 could have been even higher if Apple hadn't suffered severe component shortages, which have caused a 4-5 week wait for deliveries of online orders.
However, the company’s stock problems could soon come to an end, with sources telling DigiTimes that Apple is expected to take delivery of around 4 million
iPads a month in the second quarter of the year.
