As every
PlayStation user will know, the
PSN (Sony Playstation Network) has been down for 6 days. A
database security expert had said that the PSN was expected to be back up and running on Wednesday, 27 April 2011. However,
Sony have not denied or commented on this statement.
The PSN was confirmed on the 20th April 2011 as having been hacked and any visitor to the PSN was shown an "under maintenance" screen. The group reported to be responsible for the PSN hack are the Anonymous
Hacking Group who want to 'retaliate against the government'. The group of
hackers have been known for 8 years and their reasoning for hacking Sony's PSN is still unknown.
The Anonymous Hackers have said that they are not behind the outage of the PSN but that Sony has used the Anonymous Hackers as a scapegoat.
All of Sony's 69 million worldwide users have limited or no access to the PSN. Sony has still given no timescale to when the PSN will be back online. Sony are undergoing migrating their data from their old servers to new, hardened servers which are 'very unlikely' to be hacked again.
When users try to log on they are greeted by messages expressing that their servers are under maintenance or suspended. The FBI has issued 40 search warrants in the USA to find the group of anonymous hackers.
