The cloud based
gaming service will be launched here in the
UK on the 22nd Septemeber, 2011.
This system has been available in the United States for more than a year and the service allows users to play
games without a physical console. As a result you can play
Onlive games on a plethora of devices including tablets.
The techy bits, such as the processing, is all done on specialised servers and is then streamed over the
internet back to whatever device you are playing the game on.
Of course you miss out slightly but overall you pretty much get the same experience as you would do on a
PC or a
console, even if the
graphics are not as great as they normally would be.
Unfortunately though there is a slight worry for those who have a
download limit considering that the gaming is streamed over the internet as a result many users could find themselves quickly exceeding their monthly limit.
In terms of statistics Onlive's lowest connection speed is 1Mb/s and within an hour this would consume 450Mb. This is about half a
gigabyte but this is actually quite a lot considering most
internet service providers cap download limits at about 5GB-10GB.
Onlive is currently looking into tie-up deals with some internet service providers so that users do not get penalised.
Unfortunately price listings for the Onlive cloud-based gaming system are not available keep you're eye out on our website,
Twitter and
Facebook to be the first to hear about it.
