The
Asus Transformer Prime
tablet computer has become the most pre-ordered
Android tablet in history.
Figures released by Dixons Retail show that demand for the multi-part device has soared in the run-up to Christmas, with pre-order levels to date seven times greater than expected.
The retailer chose not to disclose specific figures but said that pre-orders for the
Asus tablet are already in their thousands.
Mark Slater, category director at Dixons Retail, advised people to order in advance to avoid disappointment when it finally lands in the UK next month.
"We are expecting the Transformer Prime to be in high demand when it arrives in January so anyone hoping to purchase one is strongly advised to pre-order now, in order to avoid missing out," he said.
The Asus Transformer Prime runs
Android v3.2 (Honeycomb) and comes with a 10.1-inch LED backlit screen with Super IPS+ technology and a Qwerty
keyboard dock, which features a track pad,
USB 2.0 port and
SD card slot.
It will also be the first tablet available in the UK with Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 3 'Kal-El' ARM-based application processor.
The device is available on pre-order for £499 (for the premium 64GB model) from retailers Currys and PC World, and will be officially released in the UK on 12th January.
