Bad spelling costs online businesses millions of pounds per year

July 18, 2011

The economy is bleak and dull. Finding a job no matter how simply is rather difficult and for graduatestrying to find a job once leaving university is even harder, regardless of what you achieved.

However, recent research has illustrated that spelling mistakes costs the UK millions, upon millions of pounds in lost online revenue. In addition, knowing how to simply spell and have a decent standard of written English could almost double your ability to land yourself in a job.

Why? Well misspellings online make the consumer question the credibility of the site and illustrating to your interviewer at your job that your English is rather poor makes them automatically doubt your ability.

The reason poor spelling or a lack of understanding of written English affects online sales or your chance of getting a job is because 9 times out of 10 of the time you are trying to sell or communicate over the internet it is done by the written word. Now if the basic building blocks of your company are poor you really are not going to be as efficient as you could be.

However, the ability to simply use a spell checker is not good enough. Recent research has shown that even if candidates for a job are able to spell or write English properly problems arise when they do not have access to a computer.

It seems that the simplest of abilities could make the biggest differences. Spelling, good grammar and correct English could double your chances of landing yourself the job and even double your sales figures online.
