The
iPad 2 was unveiled as expected yesterday by Steve Jobs in London. Steve Jobs called the
iPad 2 a post-PC device, suggesting that Apple believe
PCs have their days numbered.
The iPad 2 is 33% thinner than the iPad first generation. Coming in at 16GB,
32GB and 64GB editions, the Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi and
3G devices both have a 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch
display with IPS technology, 1024x768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi), fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating (that means your grubby fingers won't make too much of a mess) and support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously.
The iPad 2 is also powered by a
dual-core 1GHz Apple A5 custom-designed processor. If this is anything to go by, the
iPhone 5 will be a very powerful device.
What's more, the device will ship with iOS 4.3.
iOS 4.3 has a faster Safari, iTunes Home Sharing, allows you to create personal hotspots and
Airplay enhancements.
iPhone 4 users will be looking forward to iOS 4.3. No date was set for its release.
However, with iPad 2 devices shipping with iOS 4.3 from March 25 in the
UK, you'd expect it to be sooner rather than later.
