iPad 2
pre-orders are still not available in the
UK from Apple,
Amazon or any other major UK retailers. It currently appears that orders will start at 5pm on Friday 25th March, when the
iPad 2 is released - without the pre-order phase.
However, Apple did send
UK customers who had been asked to be notified about the
release of the iPad 2 . The email states that the user is invited to the
iPad 2 event at their local
Apple store . With most stores closing at 5.30pm on a typical weekday, many consumers are asking whether
Apple will open later than the scheduled 5.30pm closing time.
Still, with Apple's iPad 2 a hot topic across the globe, rumours of the
iPad 3 have begun to surface. The main concern for those interested in the iPad 2 is that John Gruber’s Daring Fireball quotes that you might be able to pick up an iPad 3 in September.
This means that iPad 2 users will only have the latest iPad for 6 months, rather than the usual 12 months.
The iPad 2 is seeing stiff rivalry from the RIM
Playbook and
Motorola Xoom tablets. However, the
App Store seems to be keeping Apple on top, for now.
