iPad 2 Sells Out In First Weekend

March 29, 2011

Apple’s stock of iPad 2 tablets in the UK has run out just days after the device went on sale.

Supplies of the eagerly awaited device in Apple stores around the country reportedly came to an end within 24 hours of its official UK launch on Friday (March 25).

The news will disappoint many fans who weren’t able to get to Apple stores over the weekend, especially with Apple revealing a 3 to 4 week wait for online orders.

Third party retailers such as Currys, PC World and the Carphone Warehouse have announced that supplies of the second-generation iPad are running low, while the UK’s major network operators have warned of delays of at least one to two weeks.

The iPad 2 went on sale on Friday (March 25) in 25 countries around the globe. In the UK, hundreds of shoppers queued outside both of Apple’s flagship London stores on Regent Street and in Covent Garden ahead of the 5pm launch. Some even spent up to 30 hours waiting in queues to get their hands on the tablet computer .

Jewels Lewis was the first person to buy the new console at the Apple Store in Regent Street, after waiting outside since 7.30am the previous day.

The iPad 2 is thinner, lighter and faster than its predecessor, and comes with two cameras ; a rear-facing camera capable of HD video-recording and a front-facing webcam for Face Time video chats.
