Apple has confirmed that
the iPad 2 is still set to
launch this coming Friday (March 25) in the UK, despite growing rumours of delays.
There has been much speculation online that the release of Apple’s second-generation
tablet PC could be pushed back due to heavy demand in the US, something which affected the launch of the first
iPad last year.
Last week, reports also suggested that the international launch of the
iPad 2 would be hit by the recent natural disasters in Japan, which has put pressure on component supply lines and led to the Japanese launch being delayed until April 25.
However, speaking to website TechRadar.com, a spokesperson for the
electronics giant said: "Everything that is on the website still holds true; the website says 25 March and that's when it'll be."
Demand for the iPad 2 in America has been staggering, with sales reaching 300,000 units on the first day of its release (March 11) alone.
The new device is thinner, lighter and faster than its predecessor, and features two
cameras – one on the back that is capable of
high definition (HD)
video-recording and a front-facing
camera for Face Time video chats.
The
tablet will also be available with Apple’s 'Smart Covers', which can double as stands.
