Fans of Samsung’s iPad-rival, the
Galaxy Tab, will be pleased to hear that Asda is offering the
Android device at a cut price of just £299.
The seven-inch version of the Galaxy Tab launched with a price tag of over £500, but was available through Asda Direct for £437. However, the supermarket chain has now slashed its own price by a further £138.
"Asda Direct is helping customers to get onto the smartpad market, offering the
Samsung Galaxy Tablet at only £299," said the retailer in a press release.
"The media tab is perfect for life on the go, at only 12 millimetres thick, and with a 7-inch touchscreen. It is small enough to fit in your hand, yet big enough to be packed with incredible entertainment and communication features using the latest Android operating system," it added.
Asda’s market-leading Galaxy Tab deal is available online at Direct.Asda.com, and comes just a day before the UK launch of the eagerly-awaited
iPad 2, which Apple has confirmed will cost £399 for the basic 16GB model.
Earlier this week,
Samsung unveiled two new
tablet devices – the
Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1, which is a smaller, updated version of its 10.1 inch Galaxy Tablet .
Both machines run
Android 3.0 Honeycomb, support Samsung's new TouchWiz user interface and are claimed to be the "world's thinnest tablets" at just 8.6mm thick.
