Which Operating System is Better for You?
When it comes to choosing an operating system, it is no longer about just considering either a Windows or Mac computer. These days, there are more options to consider. Over the past five years, Chromebooks and the Chrome OS operating system have grown in popularity. However, it can still be difficult to navigate through the different options that are available. To help you understand the two main operating systems available, the following guide to Windows and Chrome OS should help you decide which one is best for you.
How Do the Interfaces Compare?
People are generally familiar with the interface of Windows computers. The Windows 10 interface includes a main desktop. Here, you can store your most needed documents, files and folders as well as shortcuts to various apps. At the bottom of the screen there is a task bar where you can keep shortcuts to your frequently used apps. The search bar Start menu allows you to access all of your computer’s features. Overall, it has a sleek interface, and most will find it easy to use.
Although the Chrome OS interface is similar to Windows, there are some key differences. Whilst the Windows Start menu offers a range of different features, Chrome OS only shows a list of apps. Furthermore, Windows is more polished and offers more than just using apps. However, if you want simplicity then the Chrome OS operating system would most likely be a better option.
Perhaps the most significant difference between the two operating systems is their software support. Windows has more apps and games available. Additionally, the apps are more powerful too. This is because Windows is a full-powered operating system that is used by professionals around the world.
There is still a wide range of software available on Chromebooks. In fact, now is the best time to invest in a Chromebook considering that seeing as they now support a wide range of Android apps. As a result, many of the features that are available with a Chromebook can also be used on your phone. So, if you are an Android user and regularly use Gmail, Google Drive and Chrome then a Chromebook will perfectly serve your needs.
Which Operating System Should I Choose?
Generally, if there is a program you want to run on your laptop, it’s very likely it will be available for Windows. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case for Chrome OS. The operating system did get a software boost with the addition of android apps. Nevertheless, the app support on Chrome OS is still a work in progress.
If you want a full-powered computer that can run a wide range of apps and programs, then Windows is the best option. However, if you are happy with lower powered apps and tend to use Google services then the Chromebook is the better choice.
