Laptops Thinks

The second best thing after a netbook in terms of portability but certainly lives up to its battery life claims whilst still keeping the laptop light, relatively small and cheap. If it has an optical drive it'd be a cracking student laptop.

Laptops Price Comparison

Pros

Slim, portable, attractive and features an excellent battery life all for under £400.

Cons

Even though this isn’t classed as a netbook it has no optical drive leaving you feeling as though you’ve been cheated.

Introduction

The Acer Aspire 3810TZ is rather impressive and I’m only just talking about its looks. The brushed aluminium lid is flawless and screams out classy and coupled with the grey and black design that is rather business like this laptop is a perfect blend of class and modesty.

The laptop is rather sturdy too and even though the lid is rather flexible overall it feels strong and secure.

In terms of the insides, the 3810TX sports a Pentium SU4100 running at 1.3GHz and weighs in at a very light 1.6kg (a far cry from the Travelmate 5330) - making it a great laptop for students or those who want portability. With 3 USB ports, speakers, a camera and a 1 year warranty you may even feel like you've cheated Acer by paying only £380 for the 3810TZ.

8 hours battery life in a 1.6kg shell

Whopping 8 hours battery life

The Acer 3810TZ's main feature, which it has surprisingly managed to live up to, is its rather long battery life of 8 hours. It will be able to last even the longest of journeys and even when given to a thirteen year old to play with endlessly on a train from Glasgow to London this laptop was still ready to go once we got off, even after 7 odd hours.

The laptop does lack Bluetooth which my thirteen year old brother was quick to point out as he tried to connect his Bluetooth headphones to the laptop to no avail. Plus, the keyboard contains flat, large keys that make typing feel comfortable and easy but the touchpad is slightly small but still usable.

Annoying mouse buttons

However, the single rocker bar that acts as both the left and right mouse buttons is rather annoying as strokes have to be made firmly and in the right position to avoid accidents.

Overall, this laptop certainly has a long lasting battery life and besides the small talk of rather tinny speakers this laptop is a nice blend or portability, battery life and performance.

The only drawback is the lack of optical drive, akin to the Alienware M11x - and for that reason you'd be forgiven for considering netbook alternatives such as the Eee S101 or even the Samsung Galaxy Tab.
