The HP EliteBook 8440P incorporates a rather impressive specification and is primarily aimed at professionals and business users mainly because it lacks the entertainment features such as a decent dedicated graphics card of its competitors. The laptop has solid build quality, long battery life of 4 hours and rather impressive performance certainly make this a great laptop.
TThe HP EliteBook 8440P is designed to be resilient and the chassis is built to be resistant not just withstand vibrations, dust, humidity but even extreme temperatures which means whatever you throw at it it’ll be able to handle.
In a similar note the keyboard is also resilient with a spill-resistant layer and a number of drainage holes that help to keep liquids away from damaging any internal components. The keyboard, besides being liquid proof is large and comfortable to use even over long periods.
The HP EliteBook 8440P features a 14inch TFT screen that features a matte finish, eliminating those annoying reflections and making the screen easily viewable in just about every situation.
Internally, the EliteBook integrates an Intel Core i7-620M processor with a clock speed of 2.66GHz and handles even the most demanding software, opening and running them in almost no time at all. The dedicated graphics card that comes with 512MB of dedicated RAM is more than adequate for photo and video editing and even playing some of the latest games but when it comes to 3D performance it does not perform as well as its rivals.
Interestingly this £1179 laptop does not feature a HDMI port which leaves us feeling rather cheated especially considering when laptops half the price of this manage to incorporate one.
Overall, the HP EliteBook 8440P is a great laptop but for its price tag you would expect more, a bigger HD, a HDMI port and possibly even a Blu-ray optical drive. However, it is still a laptop worth considering if you’re after a high-end machine.
