The Tecra M11-11M from Toshiba is a power house which features the latest and best Intel Core i7-620M processor with a processing speed of 2.6GHz and thanks to Intel’s Turbo Boost technology, the dual-core CPU can step it up to a huge 3.3GHz if needed.
Hyper threading
Further wizardry from Intel called hyper threading enables this dual-core CPU to handle 4 threads simultaneously and therefore this i7 processor is close to the i5 as seen in the Dell Inspiron 17R and i3 processor which are also dual-core processors rather than the quad-core i7 processors. Nevertheless, the i7-620M is above the average fastest mobile dual core CPU.
An entire 4GB RAM comes with Windows 7 Professional 32-bit which means that the Toshiba Tecra will only be able to use 3GB of the total 4GB. However, if a 64 bit operating system tickles your fancy a quick upgrade will take full advantage of that extra 1GB lying dormant thanks to 32 bit Windows.
Not able to run demanding games
Even though this laptops specification is way above average its graphics chipset is completely average. The Intel GMA will certainly not be able to run any games which illustrate Toshiba’s aim to sell this to the corporate sector - it's no Alienware M15x!
Toshiba Tecra M11-11M weighs in at under 2.5kg with a functional keyboard
Even though this laptop is fairly light at 2.4kg and still includes a 14inch screen (which has minimum reflections) and a 320GB HD, the Tecra’s battery life doesn’t cater to its portable capabilities. The Tecra M11-11M only has a battery life of around 2.5 hours if you take it easy or around 1.5 hours if you step it up a little. The Vaio TZ11 has not yet been beaten in terms of battery life for the size.
Plenty of connectivity
In terms of connectivity the Tecra includes three USB ports, a card reader, 34mm ExpressCard slot, eSATA port, a Mini DisplayPort, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a Super Multi DVD drive.
Great keyboard
The keyboard of the laptop is great. Each key has a beautiful texture and there is decent spacing between each key ensuring that typos are a thing of the past. The Enter key is slightly smaller and thinner than on a normal keyboard and thus that may take some getting used to, similar to the Dell Studio 15.
The fingerprint reader sits in between the two trackpad buttons that is located just beneath the trackpad.
This laptop is a great feature filled laptop that is powerful yet portable. Even though it does not include a dedicated graphics card (which you'd expect for the price) it just goes to reinforce Toshiba’s aim to sell this laptop to corporate users rather than gamers.
