The Samsung Galaxy S Smartphone sold over a million units in little under a week and as a result Samsung are rightly looking to launch a tablet similar to their smartphone named the Galaxy Tab.
At the IFA conference in Berlin Samsung finally unveiled the Galaxy Tab and did away with all the speculation.
For Apple this means there’s another kid on the block as the Samsung Galaxy Tab is expected to arrive within the next month or so and possibly the closest rival to Apple’s beloved iPad. The 7inch tabler, with a bright OLED display which is powered by a rather speedy 1.2GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor that will incorporate Wi-Fi and 3G as well as running the latest Android 2.2. In addition, the Galaxy Tab will include 16GB internal storage which is expandable via a microSD, a 3.2 megapixel camera as well as a front VGA camera and will support flash.
Furthermore, with an internal storage of 32GB and the ability to expand this by a further 32GB via the microSD card slot the Samsung Galaxy Tab is a monster and because it supports flash, unlike the iPad, it will be able to stream content to a TV which is a rather nifty capability.
Samsung have even announced that they will include a "Reader's Hub" for e-books and a "Media Hub" for music and videos, a direct competition to Apple's app store and iTunes.
Some sources indicate, and Samsung declared that the Galaxy Tab is "the first of the company's tablet devices," indicating that Samsung could very well be planning to release an 8-inch and a 10-inch tablet which means they will be directly competing with the Dell Streak that sports a 5-inch display and the iPad that sports a 9.7inch display. However, we know for certain that by October Vodafone will be releasing these 7inch beauties in most European markets.
Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Tab could very well be the iPad killer, David could very soon slay Goliath and the world could be very different, either way with numerous other companies releasing tablet computers including Apple who are said to be working on the iPad Mini it seems the tablet industry is in for one heck of a ride.
After the success of the Samsung Galaxy S smart phone, Samsung are now venturing into unchartered waters and will be releasing, hopefully by Christmas, the Samsung Galaxy Tab - a tablet computer.
