Wireless Adapter

Adapters of this nature are becoming rarer because most laptops and notebooks come with wireless technology built in. Wireless adapters allow devices to connect to wireless networks. There are various ways in which this type of adapter connects to the device and transmits a wireless signal, including PCI, USB and PCMCIA.

Wireless Router

Wireless Routers integrate a WAP and an application that provides IP Routing, NAT, and DNS forwarding. Wireless routers usually allow connection from both wireless and wired devices to connect to the Internet. The wireless router is the most common device used as an integrated web server, serving web pages to wired and wireless local area network clients.

Wireless Access Point (WAP)

A WAP (Wireless Access Point) links several wireless devices to a wires LAN (Local Area Network.) This allows wireless devices to communicate with the wired device.

Wireless Ethernet Bridge

Wireless Ethernet bridges connect a wired network to a wireless network, or connect two wired networks over a wireless link.

Wireless Range Extender

Wireless range extenders are wireless repeaters that extend the typical range of a wireless network. This type of wireless technology is typically employed to reach around barriers blocking wireless signal. This sometimes affects the quality of service.
