ZTE Light II Android Tablet Hits UK Market

Chinese handset maker ZTE has unveiled plans to enter the UK tablet market with its 7-inch Light Tab II device.

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread tablet comes with a 7-inch 1024×600 capacitive touchscreen display and is powered by a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 SnapDragon processor with 512MB of memory and a microSD slot for storage expansion.

It also includes two cameras – a 3MP snapper on the rear and front-facing webcam for video calls – WiFi, Bluetooth, 3G, GPS, an FM radio and a battery that provides over five hours of video-viewing time.

Wu Sa, Director of Mobile Device Operations at ZTE, said the company was “very excited” about launching its first own-branded tablet in the UK.

He added: “We plan to continue our progress in the UK, introducing ZTE branded consumer devices with key capabilities at reasonable prices. Our UK strategy is very much focused on providing quality devices – a factor which is apparent through our growth and development in the handset arena.”

The tablet PC is yet to be officially released, but is already listed on the website of UK retailer Clove at a price of £234.99, with stock due in late February or early March.

The ZTE Light Tab II is available to pre-order from UK technology website Clove for £235, with stock expected to arrive later this month or early March.
