Argos launches budget tablet

Argos has joined Tesco in releasing an own-brand tablet in the run up to the Christmas shopping period. While the Hudl retails for around £120, the MyTablet is on sale for £99.99 and will also come pre-loaded with apps including BBC iPlayer and Angry Birds.

Offering a seven-inch display, the device also comes with 8GB of memory – which can be expanded to 32Gb via a Micro SD card if desired. Argos has said that the MyTablet will target families – with mums and dads having the option of parental controls if the product is to be used by younger people.

The tablet’s operating system is powered by Google’s Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and includes full access to Google Play.

Argos’ managing director John Walden said: “The Argos MyTablet is highly competitive with a great specification, and fits neatly in the range of tablets we have on offer.” He added that the company is expecting tablets to feature heavily on Christmas shopping lists again this year. The device is available exclusively in Argos stores, the company’s app and its website
