Concorde eat your heart out; Virgin have plans to make superfast travel “affordable”.
Virgin are backing the Mach 2.2 jet, which is capable of flying from London to New York in just under 3 hours and 30 minutes, staggeringly quick.
Similarly, Concorde’s average time between London and New York was around three and a half hours. Captain Leslie Scott set the fastest time at 2 hours and 52 minutes way back in 1996.
Richard Branson’s vast empire is set to grow even larger with the plan to make trans-Atlantic supersonic commercial flights possible for the first time in over a decade, and this promises to be very intriguing for the future of air travel.
Virgin has reportedly signed a deal to purchase 10 Mach 2.2 jets from Boom Technology, a Colorado-based company specialising in making supersonic passenger air travel a reality. This objective has been achieved with the cost of flying Boom being the same price as business class.
Virgin has also reportedly signed a £1.4billion deal with a London airline to help it develop its own planes. Here’s hoping we will soon be able to fly between the US and UK in just a few hours’ time.
