A new touch-based, non-windows laptop is set to be made available at the end of the month. The Darter Ultrathin has been manufactured by System 76 and runs on an Ubuntu operating system.
It comes with a 14.1-inch HD display that has multitouch functionality and weighs around 2 kg. Battery life lasts for around five hours, while it is powered by 4th Generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors.
If users prefer not to rely too heavily on the touchscreen, then they can also fall back on the traditional tools of a trackpad and keyboard.
Connectivity is also covered via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, while a number of options can also be configured to the laptop owner’s own needs.
For example, the device can hold up to 1.2TB of storage and up to 16GB DDR3 RAM. Other features include a 1MP webcam, separate headphone and microphone jacks, along with an SD card reader and two USB 3.0 ports.
The base model is available for $899 (£556) and customers can take advantage of a $5 shipping charge if they pre-order before October 28th.
