Apple set to announce smart speaker at WWDC

Rumours suggest that Apple could announce its rival to Amazon’s Echo at WWDC this June.

Reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo made the prediction (via 9to5Mac) and said that he believes the device will be a high-end device with Siri built in.

It is expected that the device will be marketed as having much superior sound quality and more computing power than both the Echo and Google Home.

Early predictions state that the product will retail at around the same price as its rivals.

While it is predicted that the Siri speaker will go on sale before the end of the year, it’s not guaranteed that the announcement will come at WWDC in June, with this only likely rather than definite.

A WWDC announcement would be logical, particularly if Apple are seeking developers to create applications for the device.

Predictions also state that the device will be marketed as a “Siri/AirPlay device” and would be styled similarly to the Mac Pro.

It is believed that the speaker would be compatible with other Apple products, including the company’s music streaming service, as well as its smart home system, Apple HomeKit.
