CES 2018 Highlight: Affordable Gaming Will be a Reality

PC gamers must often rely on the best laptops and software which usually comes at a hefty price. Normally, unless a laptop model specifies that it is to be used for gaming, there is no hope in finding the same gaming technology in a lighter, more modern notebook laptop.

In contrast, smart devices are generally fantastic for gaming. Their technological improvement over the years have meant that games can be played with effective controls and clear graphics. Although such devices aren’t cheap, they are much cheaper than the appropriate gaming laptop by comparison. It’s a somewhat sad when its less hassle and cheaper to play games on a tablet. However, a new announcement from CES 2018 may change that.

Fresh Hope for Gamers

With that in mind, AMD and Intel announced at CES 2018, that they have created a new chip that will enable great gaming performance but at an affordable price.

AMD has had great success with their Ryzen CPU and Vega GPU. It is little surprise that they have chosen to combine the two technologies on a computer chip. The first half of 2018 will give way to these chips being featured in various laptop designs for: Acer, Dell, Asus, Lenovo and HP. Intel also has four new chips that combine an Intel Core processor with Radeon RX Vega graphics.

These chips will enable almost all games to be playable at high resolution (1080p) in extremely high detail. Although this won’t be available for the cheapest laptops, the chips will work for thin laptops and 2-in-1s. Overall, it will be a significant improvement to gaming performance.

A New Wave of Laptops

However, the laptops that were premiered at CES 2018 are the beginning of a new movement of affordable notebooks. Gamers are finally getting what they’ve been waiting for; affordable yet efficient computer systems with excellent gaming capabilities.
