A ice-tea dispensing vending machine has been installed in South Africa that dispenses ice-tea in exchange for tweets. The idea was formulated and launched by the South African soft drinks company BOS Ice Tea.
In order to recieve a free sample of BOS Ice Tea, users are required to tweet a certain hashtag. To make sure that the vending machine responded to twitter tweets, its developers configured a hashtag filer. Thus, the vending machine simply responds to tweets by ensuring that the correct hashtag has appeared and if so it dispenses ice-tea.
The BOS co-founder commented that their goal was to, while sampling, to create fun, interacive and inspiring environment to do so. Furthermore, the company seemed to have taken advantage of a current growth in popularity of twitter.
