Acer Aspire 5745 Review

What We Think

An excellent all-round laptop that is certainly worth buying if you need something that is powerful, nearly-portable and not too expensive.

The Acer Aspire 5745 features the latest in mid-range processors, the Intel Core i5-450M. In addition, the build quality of the laptop is strong and has a solid chassis and even though Acer haven’t gone crazy with design and have kept it simple it certainly looks sleek and attractive especially with the glossy black lid and brushed aluminium finish along the palmrests.

The keyboard is impressive and firm and the flat but slightly raised keys are comfortable and easy to use and even though it is uncommon to find a keyboard that lacks key definition and still be comfortable we reckon this certainly bucks the trend.

The 15.6inch widescreen display is fantastically stunning creating realistic images and thanks to Acer’s added touch control functionality you can forget the touchpad and use your fingers to move and use the cursor.

However, even though this laptop is an all-rounder it is certainly not perfect and that’s due to its limited portability. The 3 hour battery life is about standard for desktop replacement laptops. However, the 2.7kg of this laptop is just acceptable but you will need to remember to pack the charger just in case.
The dedicated graphics the Nvidia GeForce 320M, that still uses the laptops memory, will be able to run older and less demanding games in high details fluently. However, more modern games such as Crysis will only be able to be played in low settings.

Our Verdict

The Acer Aspire 5745 is an excellent all-round laptop that is worth every penny due to the solid build quality, power, usability and design.
