Motorola Mobility has been passed between several owners over the years. Having built up a reputation for manufacturing popular phones, the main company split into two in 2011, birthing Motorola Mobility, and Motorola Solutions.
Motorola Mobility continued manufacturing phones, and was eventually bought by Google, who, a few years later, sold the company to Lenovo.
The ties with Google remain, however, and Motorola even produced Google’s flagship Android mobile, the Nexus 6.
