How to check for DNS changing malware DNSChanger

A nasty piece of malware called DNSChanger will kick thousands of Mac and PC users off the interenet as of Monday, 9th July 2012. More importantly, you could very well be one of those thousands who will not be able to access the internet as a result of this piece of malware.

The FBI have already started to shut down websites that have been affected by the malware, that has been in circulation since 2007.

The malware re-directs the traffic to sites where cybercriminals used paid advertisments in order to reap huge profits from unsuspecting internet users.

Even though the malware’s creators, six Estonian nationals were arrested 8 months ago some 275,000 comptuers are still at risk of having their DNS settings changed as of Monday, July 9th 2012.

However, it is not all bad news. The DNS Changer Working Group have launched a tool that helps you to check if your comptuer has been affected. If you click here and the box turns up green then you’re fine, if the box is red then your DNS settings have been changed.
