Windows Phone 8 unveiled by Microsoft

A range of new devices from Nokia, Samsung and HTC will use the system and each have their own designs and colours.
Among the new features are Kids’ Corner and Rooms – and Microsoft claimed the updates will enable people to stay connected to the people and things that matter most to them, while also providing a highly personal phone experience.
Terry Myerson, corporate vice-president of Microsoft’s Windows Phone Division, explained the system is available on a range of “stunning, colourful and unique” phones.
Mr Myerson added: “We can’t wait for the world to meet Windows Phone 8, the most personal smartphone there is.”
People will be able to personalise the start screen of their phones thanks to the Live Tiles feature.
Windows Phone is the only handheld that has this function and it allows individuals to pin their favourite apps, people, music, games and photos in three tile sizes and 20 colours – including lime, crimson and cobalt.
