Sony announces ultra thin tablet

Sony has unveiled its latest tablet, which is just 6.4mm thick.

The Xperia Z2, which has a ten-inch screen, sets a “new standard in tablet innovation” according to its manufacturer.

It weighs just 426g for the Wi-Fi model and 439g for the LTE/3G mode, meaning it is lighter than the iPad Air.

Sony’s tablet is a larger version of its smartphone counterpart and claims to be the “slimmest and lightest waterproof tablet for ultimate portability”.

The device also boasts the first live colour LED display, providing bright natural colours and sharp images in any light.

Users will be able to enjoy as many as ten hours of uninterrupted multimedia usage, before they have to put the tablet on charge.

“We have evolved our cutting-edge design to create the slimmest lightweight tablet matched with Sony’s latest technologies to deliver a unique user experience,” said Kunimasa Suzuki, president and chief executive officer of Sony Mobile Communications.

The Xperia Z2 will be available globally from March in black or white colour variants.
