Samsung set to add iPhone 5 to patent infringement lawsuits against Apple

Samsung have declared that they will sue Apple over technology used in the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5, due to be released tomorrow, is said to include at least 8 patents that belong to Samsung.

However, Apple are expected to ask the judge to treble a jury’s $1.05bn damages award in order to resolve Apple’s earlier victory over Samsung in court.

The figure was drawn up after last months ruling that Samsung have infringed several of Apple’s software and design patents. Samsung have announced that they will appeal. Both firms are expected to file paperwork on the case tomorrow.

However, the latest case takes the iPhone 5 as its focal point. Samsung filed paperwork with a California court pointing out that Apple is infringing at least eight of Samsung’s US patents.
